I was diagnosed with Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Liver Cancer). This type of cancer usually affects people that have Hepatitis C or Cirrhosis from alcoholism, none of which I have.

When my son, Sawyer, was just eight days old he was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia and underwent his first surgery.

I was diagnosed with End-Stage Liver Disease caused from Hepatic Encephalopathy. That began a journey during which I was to learn first hand of the benefits of ALF.

Fifteen years ago I was diagnosed with a very rare chronic auto-immune disease called, Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC).

Kennedie has Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis type 2. Her liver doesn’t produce the protein that exports bile out of the liver to break down fat and absorb fat soluble vitamins.

My blood work was flagged for high liver enzymes. I spent the summer having additional blood work, an abdominal ultrasound, and a Gastroenterologist who ordered a liver biopsy.

Madelyn was diagnosed at 7 weeks with Biliary Atresia. Her first major surgery, The Kasai Procedure failed and Maddie was evaluated and placed on the liver transplant waitlist.

My journey began when I was 8 weeks old, when I went down to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana to receive the Kasai Procedure.

At 41 days old Adriana underwent a cholangiogram that resulted in her being officially diagnosed with Biliary Atresia and receiving her Kasai procedure on January 17, 2019.

At 10 weeks old I was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia and I underwent my first operation of many, called a Kasai.

The first symptom of my liver disease was vomiting a large amount of blood. I was told I had end stage cirrhosis, when the day before I had no idea anything was wrong.

Bryan was a 22 year old U.S. Marine in perfect health. He was diagnosed with a rare chronic liver disease (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis).
