Liver Transplant

I walked in my first Liver Life Walk just 6 weeks post-transplant. I was diagnosed with liver disease in February of 2010, after being sick for about 2 years.

For every liver transplant, there are two stories. The story of the donor and the story of the recipient. Sometimes—not often—there is a third story.

I went into surgery at about 225 lbs. and when I got home after rehabilitation I weighed 138 lbs. I worked with in home physical therapist and eventually start slowly going back to a health club.

I was diagnosed with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). It was a huge shock to me since I never had any major health issues.

All this time I was yellow, getting weaker, struggling to walk, unable to climb stairs, sleeping 12-14 hours a day, in pain, only eating soup or porridge yet my weight was increasing.

Charlie received an upper endoscopy and banding procedure to cut off blood flow from esophageal varices that had developed due to his portal hypertension.

Life does not give you another chance too often. With organ and tissue donation, you can be giving that gift. Shelby thinks all the time of her gifts that she has in her life.

When Liver Disease tried to take her down she fought harder than anyone I know.

He is post-transplant liver, 13 years & post-transplant kidney, 9 years and still going strong! The moral of his story, NEVER GIVE UP!

He battled cirrhosis of the liver for about 6 months until we found out he had end stage liver failure and his kidneys started to malfunction as well.

She saw a GI specialist to help her with her illness, and had a nurse who became her advocate in this fight. She was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver.

Doctors began a battery of tests to determine the source of Mallory's nausea, abdominal pain, and jaundice. They discovered she was suffering from a severe illness known as Wilson Disease.
