Volunteer Positions
Advocacy Ambassador
Advocacy Ambassadors are committed to improving the lives of liver disease patients, caregivers, and families by advancing the American Liver Foundation’s (ALF) legislative priorities and advocating for change in government policies. Advocacy Ambassadors build and maintain strong relationships with their federal legislators as well as with fellow ALF Advocates. Advocacy Ambassadors raise awareness and educate the public through participation in ALF initiatives in coordination with ALF staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Respond to action alerts and participate in advocacy initiatives such as the annual Lend Your Voice campaign
Maintain relationships and interact with federal legislators and their staffs throughout the year; invite them to events as appropriate
Request and coordinate meetings with federal legislators or staff as needed
Recruit ALF Advocates to attend meetings to share their story with legislators
Track and record summaries of legislator meetings, phone conversations, and other pertinent information upon completion of activity
Stay apprised of ALF legislative priorities, attend virtual legislative briefings, read monthly newsletter, participate in virtual Advocacy Ambassador team meetings
Participate in outreach event opportunities to educate others about ALF and encourage them to get involved, including attendance at an ALF Liver Life Walk if nearby
Advise ALF staff partner of local public awareness opportunities (e.g. Town Hall meetings or partner organization walks) to discuss appropriateness of ALF representation/involvement
Communicate regularly with your ALF staff partner; share updates, event stories, and photos as appropriate(via email or post to online community platform, Basecamp), ask questions, request resources
Qualifications
Willingness to maintain a broad understanding of ALF and its mission
Interest in and basic understanding (or willingness to learn) about the legislative process
Comfortable speaking in front of people
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and with others
Have access to a computer, webcam and microphone, email, internet, and phone
Time Commitment: The time commitment varies month to month depending on advocacy initiatives and priorities. Terms last two years, but may be extended.
Reports to: National Manager of ALF Advocacy.
Training & Support: An overview of the program is provided and followed by training opportunities throughout the year. Monthly virtual meetings take place to provide updates to all Advocacy Ambassadors who also have access to ALF staff for questions and support.

National Auction Committee
The American Liver Foundation (ALF) National Events Auction Committee takes an active role in supporting the organization’s fundraising efforts by helping ALF secure auction items valued at $250+. Committee members will assist by asking personal contacts to donate or underwrite auction items for ALF events. Examples of auction items include: tablets, smartphones, smart TVs, headphones/ear buds, gaming systems, fitness devices, signed sports memorabilia, home fitness equipment, artwork, home décor, designer fashion accessories, jewelry, vacation packages, and unique experiences.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with ALF staff and committee members to identify, build, and maintain relationships with companies and individuals committed to supporting ALF’s auction and events through the donation of items
Generate new and creative ways to bring in night/day-of-revenue
Identify, develop, and implement term-goal projects for each event
Secure tangible items that appeal to a variety of individuals and that can be used as stand-alone items or in a package to create a fun and exciting experience
Help meet/exceed the budgeted revenue goal for auction items
Assist with one ALF event (in-person or virtually, depending on location)
Attend regular meetings held via Zoom
Qualifications
Comfortable reaching out to corporations and/or personal contacts via phone and email
Experience asking for donations on behalf of a non-profit organization
Familiarity with mobile bidding platforms is a plus
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams)
Time Commitment
Dedicate approximately 20 hours per quarter for 1 full calendar year; some nights and weekend hours may apply

Events Volunteer
From event-day volunteers to committee members to event chairs—the ALF Events team has a variety of opportunities for individuals interested in being a part of our signature events. Roles may include but are not limited to serving on a walk committee to assist with marketing, securing in-kind donations, auction items, and volunteer recruitment to helping with event day logistics such as set up/tear down, walk route management, registration, and more. Whether you’d like to lead the charge in establishing an event in your community, work as a part of planning committee, or simply help on event day, the ALF Events team wants to hear from you!
