Hepatitis C

My name is Debbie. I love cooking, going to art shows with my mom, exploring Chicago with my husband, son and grandpuppy, and spending time with my daughter as she rides and competes in jumper classes at horse shows.

I found out over 30 years ago that I had hepatitis C after a blood transfusion. Not much was known about “non-a,non-b” hepatitis as it was called at that time. Upon my return to work, I was confronted by co-workers who weren’t sure the wanted me there because I might infect them. I learned quickly not to tell anyone except for my immediate family and the closest of friends. Even as I went through treatment a few years ago, my old fears kept me from telling even my co-workers what I as going through. I am now cured and realize the toll hepatitis took on me physically and emotionally. I am so grateful to the medical professionals who worked so hard to find a cure, and to my family and friends for their love and support. If you suspect you have hepatitis, please don’t be afraid to be tested and seek treatment. Take control of your health and talk to your doctor.
