Helene Jordan, PhD

National Senior Director, Research Program Management

Dr. Helene Jordan is National Senior Director, Research Program Management at American Liver Foundation (ALF). Helene joined ALF in 2023 to develop a robust research program to ultimately benefit patients with liver diseases. Under her leadership, ALF has issued research awards to promising young investigators in liver research and funded pilot research projects to boost innovation in rare autoimmune and pediatric liver diseases. Helene also led the effort to implement the American Liver Foundation Patient Registry, the first patient registry for all liver diseases that was launched in July 2024.     

Dr. Jordan has versatile experience in biomedical research. Her basic and translational lab research work focused on the role of T cells in autoimmune diseases, tumor immunology, and immune-mediated skin diseases. In addition to her direct involvement in academic research, Helene has extensive experience in research management, grant writing, and research resources programs. Her research interests include cellular immunology, autoimmune diseases, and liver research.

Dr. Jordan obtained a PhD in Human Biology/Immunology at Université Claude Bernard Lyon-I (Lyon, France). She conducted her postdoctoral training at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (Lausanne, Switzerland), University of Chicago, and University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she obtained a faculty position as Adjunct Assistant Professor. She has published in high-impact journals including Nature ImmunologyImmunityJournal of Experimental Medicine, and Journal of Clinical Investigation, among others, and provided freelance science writing services that contributed to many other grant proposals and research publications. Additionally, she supported the research enterprise at UCSF in various positions in the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost and Vice-Chancellor for Research offices.
