Ari Cohen, MD, MBA, MSc, FRCSC, FACS, is a board-certified abdominal transplant surgeon who serves as Director of the Multi-Organ Transplant Institute and Director of Transplant Research at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, Louisiana. He specializes in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants, as well as living-donor liver transplants. Dr. Cohen is a Professor of Surgery at both the University of Queensland and Louisiana State University, Shreveport.
Connection to Liver Disease:
As the leader of ALF's Living Donor Transplant Workgroup, Dr. Cohen joined the organization in 2022 to advance the cause and raise public awareness of liver transplants through the use of living donors. He has led discussions among liver transplantation experts and thought leaders regarding alternative strategies to remove barriers, apply lessons learned from successful living kidney transplants, encourage creativity, and increase the availability and number of living donor liver transplants. Dr. Cohen also advances the goals of ALF by encouraging colleagues to participate in Liver Life Challenge activities.
