More than 100 million Americans are living with some form of liver disease. Many don’t even know they have it until it’s too late — when the damage is irreversible and their options are limited. Liver disease is one of the fastest-growing public health crises in our nation, and without urgent action, the toll will keep rising.
This is not just about numbers. It’s about you, your neighbors, friends, parents, children- people we love.
Why This Matters Right Now
From newborns to older adults, liver health is under threat and this summer we’re focusing on three key areas that urgently need your help: obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), living organ donors, and protecting newborns from hepatitis. MASLD, formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is present in 90% of those who are obese and 75% of those who are overweight, and it can progress to liver failure or cancer. Although obesity is a leading driver of MASLD Medicare beneficiaries face barriers to the treatments they need. Nearly 9,300 people are waiting for a liver transplant, 25% of whom will die waiting. Yet living donors still face unnecessary legal and insurance barriers. The hepatitis B birth dose has reduced childhood hepatitis B infections by 95%, yet access is at risk.

Why Your Story Is the Key
Statistics open eyes — but your story opens hearts. When lawmakers hear directly from the people they represent, it puts a face on the policies they vote on. Whether liver disease has touched your life, your family, or your community, your voice matters. Even if you’ve never written to Congress before, this is your chance to make a difference. Our action tool makes it simple:
While You’re Here — 10 Seconds, Big Impact
In addition to sharing your story, you can help drive meaningful change for liver patients by taking quick actions on other urgent priorities:
Each action takes less than 10 seconds — but together, they help shape a future where liver patients have the care and protection they deserve.
