In this week’s Health Policy Round-Up, ALF shares the most up to date news happening in Washington DC.

  • American Liver Foundation is grateful that the first-ever study for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) remains in the Senate Appropriations Committee FY 2026 Labor, HHS, Education Appropriations Bill. We are thrilled that the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will continue to work on the study and report its findings by 2027 and we are grateful to our advocates for continuing to press for this important study.
  • On July 29th, the Senate voted to confirm Dr. Susan Monarez, Ph.D. to become director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She holds a doctorate in microbiology and immunology from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to joining the CDC, Dr. Monarez was deputy director for the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, (ARPA-H), a governmental agency that funds cutting-edge biomedical and health research.
  • The House of Representatives is on August recess. The Senate is scheduled to break for recess on August 2nd. Both chambers will return to Washington D.C. on September 2nd.
