In this week’s Health Policy Round-Up, ALF shares the most up to date news happening in Washington DC.
- The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) was reintroduced in the House this week, joining its companion bill in the Senate and giving the legislation full, bicameral momentum.
- TROA would modernize Medicare by expanding access to comprehensive obesity care, including FDA-approved anti-obesity medications and behavioral therapy from a broader range of providers like registered dietitians, clinical psychologists, and obesity specialists.
- The bill aims to reduce long-term health costs and improve outcomes for the more than 42% of adults 60+ living with obesity. By increasing access to early intervention, TROA could help prevent chronic conditions like metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), diabetes, heart disease, and stroke conditions that drive up both human and economic costs.
- Take action now to support TROA along with other critical legislation including the Living Donor Protection Act, Safe Step Act, HOLD Act, and HELP Copays Act.
