Weekly Healthcare Policy Round-Up

May 23, 2025

In this week’s Health Policy Round-Up, ALF shares the most up to date news happening in Washington DC.

  • An important development for liver patients! On May 22nd, the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) commission released its report, titled “Making Our Children Healthy Again”, which highlights the important connection between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and diabetes and obesity. The report will be used over the next 100 days for the MAHA commission to develop a plan that can be implemented during the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term. ALF will work closely with policymakers to ensure liver patient voices are heard.
  • On May 22nd, the House of Representatives voted and passed the reconciliation bill. This bill includes nearly $700 billion worth of spending cuts to Medicaid over the next 10 years. The bill will go to the Senate to be voted on. ALF will continue to monitor this bill and the potential effects to liver patients.
