A revered leader in the field of hepatology
American Liver Foundation mourns the loss of Col. Stephen A. Harrison, MD, FACP, FAASLD, a revered leader in the field of hepatology, specifically in fatty liver disease (now called steatotic liver disease). An innovator who relentlessly pursued new treatments and cures for liver patients, he served as Co-Founder and Chairman of Summit Clinical Research, LLC, and as the Founder and Chairman of Pinnacle Clinical Research, both in San Antonio, Texas.
“Dr. Harrison's impact on the field of hepatology and in also supporting patients with liver disease was truly remarkable. He was always fully and enthusiastically engaged with the liver community, both as a clinical researcher and educator, by providing novel insight into the complex and evolving field of steatotic liver disease and related challenges in patient care,” said American Liver Foundation Board Chair Emmanuel Thomas, MD, PhD, FAASLD, Associate Professor, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Harrison published over 350 peer-reviewed articles and had more than 50,000 citations. He also served for more than 20 years in the United States Army. A mentor, colleague and friend to many, his legacy will remain with all for years to come. American Liver Foundation extends our deepest condolences to his family and to all who loved him.
