On behalf of the entire American Liver Foundation (ALF) family, we express our heartfelt condolences to the family of our beloved former board member, Michael Kerr, who passed away from complications associated with liver disease.
Michael first became involved with ALF in 2008, joining the national board of directions. In 2009, he received a living donor liver transplant from his wife, Susie. He was a member of the ALF finance committee and served as chairman through 2021. In 2022, the Kerrs were honored at the ALF National Legacy Gala with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing their generosity, passion and commitment to ALF, which have been integral to the growth and success of the foundation.
“Michael Kerr was devoted to bringing an end to liver disease. He was a mentor and friend to everyone who knew him and left an indelible mark on ALF through his extraordinary generosity, dedication, tenacity, and grand sense of humor. He was instrumental in leading ALF through very difficult times ensuring that the foundation was poised for growth and on the solid ground it is today. He will be forever missed,” said Emmanuel Thomas, MD, PhD, FAASLD, Board Chair, American Liver Foundation and Tenured Professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine Florida.
“Michael truly embodied the mission and spirit of ALF. He touched the lives of millions of liver patients and their families through his extraordinary leadership, unparalleled generosity and remarkable compassion. He was a great source of inspiration to ALF staff, board and volunteers leading by example and encouraging all around him to do the same. We express our deepest condolences to his beloved wife, Susie, and his entire family. We hope that his memory will be a blessing and source of strength to all who loved him,” said Lorraine Stiehl, CEO, American Liver Foundation.
The Kerr family has generously directed that donations in honor of Michael be made to ALF. The foundation is forever grateful to Michael Kerr, who even in his passing continues to help liver patients nationwide.
