Emmanuel Thomas, MD, PhD, FAASLD is an Associate Professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology. He is also a member of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Schiff Center for Liver Diseases at the University of Miami. During his post-doctorate training, Dr. Thomas worked at UNC-Chapel Hill with Dr. Michael Fried and in the Liver Diseases Branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with Dr. Jake Liang. His multidisciplinary research program in liver disease and cancer is funded by the NIH through a five-year, renewable Outstanding Investigator Award studying chronic viral infections in the liver. He is also helping lead the HCV elimination effort in Florida.
Connection to Liver Disease
Dr. Thomas is ALF Board Chair. He joined the ALF National Board in 2018 to advocate on behalf of patients affected by liver disease and specifically viral hepatitis and cancer. He is a National Medical Advisor and previously served as Chair of the Nominating Committee. His academic background and drive make him a key leader in ALF’s professional education programming.
