Don C. Rockey, MD, FAASLD

Don C. Rockey, MD is a Distinguished University Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Director of the Digestive Disease Research Core Center where he treats patients with steatotic (fatty) liver disease, fibrosis, cirrhosis and other GI/liver diseases. He is a physician scientist who has dedicated his research to improving patient outcomes and has made several groundbreaking discoveries in the field of liver fibrosis, including the identification of potential therapeutic targets now being tested in clinical trials. Dr. Rockey is also a distinguished clinical investigator and clinician and has played a critical role in clinical studies and the development of management guidelines that have led to changes in the clinical practice of liver disease in the U.S. He is also a dedicated mentor, having mentored more than 150 undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and junior faculty members.

Dr. Rockey has been an active member of ALF’s medical professional community and a trusted medical advisor since 2020 and is currently serving as Co-Chair of ALF’s Research Awards Program Grants Review Committee. Over the years, Dr. Rockey’s expertise has been crucial in the development of patient educational content for ALF’s website and as an expert speaker for medical professional programs, including our new Liver Health Project Echo Series. In addition, his vast network has helped introduce ALF’s national public health initiative, Think Liver Think Life® to new partnering clinics across the U.S.
