ALF pays tribute to Vinay Sundaram, MD of Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA who passed away July 14, 2022.
Dr. Sundaram was an active medical advisor for the American Liver Foundation (ALF) and a humble and patient mentor to the Cedar-Sinai Fellows at ALF’s Academic Debates. Most recently, Dr. Sundaram was helping ALF lay the groundwork for a new peer-to-peer mentorship program in conjunction with the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) aimed to connect seasoned medical professionals with early career physicians and investigators looking to advance their knowledge and deepen their skills.
The dedication Dr. Sundaram showed his patients and the passion he showed when teaching others about liver disease was truly remarkable. Whether you were one of his patients, or the newest physician on staff, Dr. Sundaram always made you feel like a member of the team, a partner in your liver journey and a friend to stand by your side to teach and advise. ALF offers its deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Sundaram and we are grateful for his service to all those affected by liver disease.
Jacqueline Dominguez, ALF’s National Sr. Director, Engagement, worked closely with Dr. Sundaram and said, “Dr. Sundaram’s passing is a tragic loss for the medical community, liver patients and everyone who knew him. He was a well loved and respected physician, volunteer and liver advocate.”
