Don C. Rockey, MD, FAASLD

Don C. Rockey, MD, is a Distinguished University Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Director of the Digestive Disease Research Core Center. He treats patients with steatotic (fatty) liver disease, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and a broad range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions. A physician‑scientist, Dr. Rockey has dedicated his career to improving patient outcomes and has made several groundbreaking contributions to the field of liver fibrosis, including the identification of potential therapeutic targets that are now being evaluated in clinical trials.

Dr. Rockey is also a highly respected clinical investigator and clinician whose work has played a critical role in major clinical studies and the development of management guidelines that have meaningfully influenced the practice of liver disease care in the United States. In addition, he is a dedicated mentor, having guided more than 150 undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and junior faculty members throughout his career.

Dr. Rockey has been an active member of ALF’s medical professional community and a trusted medical advisor since 2020 and currently serves as Co‑Chair of ALF’s Research Awards Program Grants Review Committee. His expertise has been instrumental in shaping patient education content for ALF’s website and supporting medical professional education as an expert speaker, including participation in ALF’s Liver Health Project ECHO Series. Through his extensive professional network, Dr. Rockey has also helped introduce ALF’s national public health initiative, Think Liver Think Life®, to new clinical partners across the United States.
