목표

The objective of the 2024 Pilot Research Awards is to provide funding for highly innovative projects that address novel and important questions related to Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH), or Biliary Atresia (BA).

Pilot Research Awards provide funding during the pilot phase of research projects focused on new areas of investigation, innovative ideas, or “high-risk, high-reward” projects that have the potential to generate breakthrough findings and significantly advance the field. Pilot projects should address key outstanding questions in basic, translational, or clinical research on PBC, PSC, AIH, or BA.

Proposals do not require extensive preliminary data but need to articulate a clear, testable hypothesis and well-defined goals that are achievable within the timeframe and amount of the award. Funded projects are expected to result in acquisition of key preliminary data that will enable recipients to successfully compete for research awards from NIH and other national organizations to support larger studies in these innovative research areas.

How to Apply for a Pilot Research Award

Important note: Separate RFPs were issued for each disease (PBC, PSC, AIH, and BA). Please make sure that you download the appropriate Application Guidelines and select the correct disease of interest in the Submission form below.   

1. Download the Pilot Research Award Application Form and Application Guidelines for your disease of interest:
   • Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH): Pilot Application Form 및 AIH Pilot Application Guidelines
   • Biliary Atresia (BA): Pilot Application Form 및 BA Pilot Application Guidelines
   • 원발성 담즙성 담관염(PBC): Pilot Application Form 및 PBC Pilot Application Guidelines

2. Submit a Letter of Intent via email no later than May 10, 2024 (see Application Guidelines for details).

5. Complete the Submission form below. Applicants must select a Disease of Interest and Primary Type of Research for their research proposal.
