Dr. David Bernstein and ALF’s Veronica Perez Talk About Your Liver
Even before Americans embraced social distancing, the American Liver Foundation was exploring a new way to reach out to those who are interested in learning about liver disease. Dr. David Bernstein joined the Greater New York Division’s Executive Director, Veronica Perez, for a very successful radio interview with WHPC Radio in Long Island. Dr. Bernstein, a local resident, is on our Greater New York Division Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) and is the Chief Hepatologist and the Director of the Sandra Atlas Bass Center for Liver Disease at Long Island’s Northwell Health.
Veronica and Dr. Bernstein discussed liver disease and the American Liver Foundation, particularly focusing on the Greater New York Division. The show aired Thursday, March 19th and replayed on Sunday, March 22nd on WHPC 90.3FM. It has also been included on their podcast.
WHPC 90.3FM, The Voice of Nassau Community College, is a 500-watt non-commercial, educational radio station, serving Nassau County, eastern Queens, and Western Suffolk County communities. The station provides professional broadcast training to qualified Nassau Community College students, as well as members of the community. Shawn Novatt, the Director of WHPC, saw an article in the Healthy Living papers about the American Liver Foundation and reached out.
Veronica Perez described the interview as, “More than a regular interview, this became a conversation between two ALF representatives and two individuals who previously had never given much thought to their liver. While the interview did come to an end, the conversation didn’t. We continued answering more questions about the liver and overall liver health. That’s the goal. For conversations to continue about why this matters so much. We are grateful to WHPC for their time, interest and to being open to learn more.”

The WHPC team learned so much that they have invited both Veronica and Dr. Bernstein back to talk about liver health and the ALF on another program, called Your Family Health.
