ALF Corporate Council Meeting Reports “We Are Better Together”
The American Liver Foundation’s most recent Corporate Council meeting, on September 24, was extremely productive. We were able to share an international patient survey with council members to spark an important conversation about best ways to include the patient voice in clinical trial development.
The report, Better Together, was produced by Accenture, a Fortune 500 strategy consulting firm, and calls for patient advocacy organizations and pharmaceutical / biotech companies to collaborate differently to improve the patient experience.
Keena Patel, Accenture’s Managing Director of Life Sciences, offered her time pro-bono. She presented highlights from the study. Then she and her colleagues facilitated break-out sessions, which generated several ideas that ALF hopes to bring to fruition in the near future.
The survey of 4,000 patients across four countries shed light on how patients use, engage with and value services from patient organizations in comparison to those from pharmaceutical companies and other healthcare players. In all instances it appeared that patient support organizations like ALF offered a much-appreciated level of trust to patients and families. To learn more, download the full report here.
LF also thanks Robert Brown, MD, MPH from Weill Cornell Medicine’s Center for Liver Disease and Lindsay Ventura from the American Liver Foundation’s New England Division for their presentations.
